    GoalieHawk: . . . . Thu, Jul 30, 5:50PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Wow, I love what you've done to the place..... sorry, but I just got the e-mail about the money support for this site today. I don't use hotmail.com I use yahoo.com so e-mail me at goaliehawk@yahoo.com I'll be sending you some money to keep this site open. GOALIES RULE

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 5:08AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well smott, the power of suggestion is powerful indeed. Getting dressed for my game last night...cup and collar...looking...looking...nowhere to be found. Except for on their hanger in my garage at home!

    Goal35: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 5:52AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Any one out there using Christian Superlite Pro 100 sticks, I got the catalog from Boston Hockey this week - on sale for $25 ea...

    smott: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:33AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Eeeek sorry Sieve I guess it's catching!!! Not that I can exactly sympathize but I guess for a guy going cup-less can be um distracting!

    Grass: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:35AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I'm afraid this old guy would have to go home rather than play um distracted!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:43AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I used to use Christian Prolite 100s but they are heavy and they break consistently on the heel after about 2 months use. I'm a Heaton Helite IV or 90Z kinda guy now.

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:46AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well, I didn't exactly go cupless but I'll tell ya this, a player cup does not give off the same confidence a big fat $60 Bauer Reactor goal jock does.

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:51AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Cdp, I agree about Christian's crappy heel, but you say your Heaton's are lighter? Hmmm. What do you think of Sherwood sticks?

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:52AM PST (-0700 GMT)
BUFFALO SABRES-Signed C Domenic Pittis and C Craig Fisher. DALLAS STARS-Signed LW David Roberts to a one-year contract. EDMONTON OILERS-Announced the retirement of D Kevin Lowe and named him assistant coach. SAN JOSE SHARKS-Announced the retirement of G Kelly Hrudey. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING-Signed C Jesse Belanger. Re-signed RW Corey Spring.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:57AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Sher woods are OK. I stil remember when they where the logs everybody used. They have gotten lighter but i think the durability has suffered

    smott: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:14AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I love my Kohos light and very durable....

    C5: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:29AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Kelly Hrudey has retired! Check it out at this button ... He hasn't died, obviously, but there is a feeling of sadness among those of us who grew up watching him play. But we'll get to see him on CBC!

    C5: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:32AM PST (-0700 GMT)
The real question is... Who will last longer, Moog or Vernie? Where will Vernon be next year, now that the Sharks have signed Shields? Will they trade off for one more season (my likely choice) or what?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:38AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I was watching CLassic Sports series Frozen in Time, Isles v Rangers game 5 in like 1984....Glen Hanlon ofthe Isles replaced briefly by youngster John Vanbeisbrook....geez the goalies looked SMALL back then!....That was the game where Morrow scored in OT for the Isles....

    smott: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 9:18AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Oh BTW gang I tried out those magnetic shoe-insoles....went running last night and had no problems with my chronically sore heel...things that make ya go hmmm....

    Carpe de puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 10:34AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hey, correct me if I'm wrong but Moog has retired as well so I guess Vernon won the longevity contest C5 mentioned a few posts above?

    Goal35: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 10:39AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I've gotten the heel to hold up much longer if tape it... have had good luck with them, where the hold up the best is in the barrel... and at $25 a pop, i'm good for a yr or more at least..

    Carpe de puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 10:48AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I got the heel to hold up after I re- fiberglassed it.....twice. makes a good warm up stick as well as stick time lumber. Nothing like a big piece of lumber to strengthen the arm and hack at the ankles of the guy in the crease :-)

    C5: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 11:30AM PST (-0700 GMT)
You got that right, CdP, and I think I'm going to turn into Hextall come this season, what with having been cut while still in my crease area. There are going to be some hacked ankles, and I'll have the scar to justify it. I don't know how I missed Moog's retirement, BTW.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 11:53AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yep guess Vernie is the old guard...how old is Beezer?...

    Goal35: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 12:54AM PST (-0700 GMT)
guess that's just me, I like the heavy stick, plus it does drop those pesky crease bugs when you cup check them.....

    Goal35: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 12:55AM PST (-0700 GMT)
C5 - how's the injury healing? any tendon damage?

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 12:55AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hi G35.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:23PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Where is everyone? Scott, did you get my E-mail? I just installed the latest software for AOL and don't know if it scrambled my E-mail or not.

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yes Carpe got it... but... SERIOUSLY??? CHECKERBOARD!! hahah lets keep that stuff on the McKenney gear... low end graphics on low end gear! hahah Check out our new 6 point star pattern! I also have pad blanks available if you want to create your own graphics... I need to find time to do some website work, and get out blanks available for download! (and keeping in the BATTRAM tradition of offering a good website, and great equipment) the blanks actually look like our pad!! unlike some of the blanks I have seen on other sites... I had a graphic artist draw these (actually he is the guy who does our logos etc John "YONA" Fiorvanti...) soon we will have the blocker and glove blanks available!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:44PM PST (-0700 GMT)
C5, yes I know what you mean about BULKY looking pads.. we try to keep ours nice and smooth and tight.. for this simple reason! I dont like BULD either.. BRIANS are really bulky, our pads have a nice taper to them at the knee/thigh as well as the toe...as you can see they are also built with a nice contour in the profile of the pad so the pad feels nice on the legs! Hey Wolfie, if you are at the puckstoppers clinic... you will meet my friends Jukka and Yona, although JUKKA will have to wear his VAUGHN gear rather than his new BATTRAM stuff since Vaughn is sponsoring the school and he is the head instructor, we are going to try to have Yona's new 6-point star graphics ready for the camp as well... Jukka is the head instructor at the school.. we will probably take a drive up on the Thursday or Friday... Dyson will be fuming! haha a couple of nice new BATTRAM sets of pads at his camp! heheh... last year he came up to me and actually shook my hand and complimented us on the great job we are doing.. maybe he will want a few for SFS London when he sees the 98 BOLD models! hahah

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:44PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Where is the new 6 point star pattern at? Haven't seenit on the site. So can you do a variation of the 2 that I sent you or not?

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:47PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Scott are you familiar with puckstoppers program? How would you rate it? I may have a chance to go to the one in Houston but after this last camp (sports Int'l) I want to spend my money on a higher quality, more demanding program.

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:48PM PST (-0700 GMT)
We have it on paper, we will be building YONA's as the first set.. if we like the look on the actual pad and gloves we will use it... We could do a checkerboard, but its not something I would want to do, and I dont think it looks good at all.. but thats my opinion!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:48PM PST (-0700 GMT)
So Mckenny gear is pretty cheap? I've never heard of it, I found it on the kenesky web site. Maybe they make it? Anyone know?

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:49PM PST (-0700 GMT)
From what I saw of the puckstoppers school in london, I would rate it as a mid-level camp... it wasnt organized well, decent instructors, but poor staff working on the ice...

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:50PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I don't really want a checkerboard per say but more of a diagonal hatching of the colors

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:51PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Trevor McKenney makes the equipment... he was with McMartin, hence the name MC MARTIN, then he went to work with PROGRESS Sports, makers of EDGE and EDDY, now they are out of business.. so trevor went on his own... and started making McKenney... these are BULKY pads that C5 talked about

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:51PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Ohh... diaganols are no problem... and they look pretty cool!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:52PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Really? I thougth Puckstoppers might have been better. This last camp the shooters sucked. Kinda hard working your blocker when the shots are on the ice. Any suggestions for a high level or elite program thats run in the states?

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:53PM PST (-0700 GMT)
There are a few other really bad pads out there... KEVINS are brutal, they are made by Toronto Hockey Repair, and the guy who sells these Kevins pads called me and wanted to know if I could make him gloves.. I said.. what do you want to pay.. he said, $250.00 for the set!! hahah I said... hmmm sorry!! couldnt make the catcher for that price! The Kevins pads are totally stuffed with FIBERFIL throughout the entire pad!! talk about heavy!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:54PM PST (-0700 GMT)
would you be able to send me your rendition of a pair of pads done diagonal? Thatsmore along the lines of what I'm trying to acheive. Tell me about the 6 point star pattern, I may be interested

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:56PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I've noticed a few sites that sell stuff that looks questionable. Gould and Kay come to mind real quick

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:56PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well, best camp I have seen is Future Pro, Steve is a friend of mine, but I say this without bias... he has a teaching degree, and 80% of his instructors have teaching (generally phys-ed) degrees... also, his staff is paid well, i know if I was to work a week it would be about 500 - 600 bucks... even the kids gathering pucks are paid about 100.00 a week.. so it makes a big difference, if the staff is paid and looked after well! as they actually work! not just goof around... plus, he only has staff with JR A - NCAA Div 1 or Pro backgrounds...

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:58PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Does Future pro run state side camps?

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:58PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I will scan Yonas diagram of it, and email the image to you of the 6 point star.. its a cool look for the people in the USA! GOULD is made by Glenn Miller...But cant you tell? Just look at the pads! pretty much the same! Vaughn used to make JOFA gear as well many years ago!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 6:59PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Steve runs some up in Michigan, he has moved to Sarnia, so its right on the Michigan border... he was employed with the Detroit Vipers as a goalie consultant, after his NHL career was cut short on a hit by Tony Twist..

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:00PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Future Pros website is at www.futurepro.com

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:02PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I wonder if Gould actually sells alot of equipment, its outrageously priced... the catch glove is almost 400.00 US!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:05PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    $349.00 to be exact!!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:07PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I doubt it, i've never even seen anyone wearing his stuff

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:08PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I think I see how he is pricing it.. He probably pays the same as you or I would from Glenn Miller, and then puts his markup on that..

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:08PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I'm hosed for the US run camps this year. Guess I need a relative to move to Ontario. Scott know of any good stores/shops in BC? I may be up that way in a few weeks

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:10PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Cant help you there... you could always go to MILLER in BC! haha

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:10PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Scott what kind of wait am I looking at if I order a pair of pads from you with a diagonal design on them?

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:11PM PST (-0700 GMT)
HAHA and tell him how high he is...literally

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:12PM PST (-0700 GMT)
You have any info on the camp Ian Young runs? I've read a few of his books, I'm curious how well his camps are.

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:13PM PST (-0700 GMT)
probably about 4 weeks or so... we just got a pile of orders this week... well a pile for us, is 3 full sets, a couple catchers, and 3 or 4 pairs of pads...

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:13PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I have heard nothing but good things about Ian Youngs camps!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:14PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hey Scott, you need any summer help? I could take leave and go to camp and gopher for you HAHAHA

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:16PM PST (-0700 GMT)
hmmm, are you a good floor sweeper!! hahah it took me about 2 years to fully train my best worker!!!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:16PM PST (-0700 GMT)
You have any info on Ian?

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:17PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Sorry, I dont have any information on him... I think he maybe sent me something about advertising or sponsoring his camps... I will dig through my correspondence files...

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:17PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hey, I'm in the Army I'm qualified to sweep floors and pick up trash with the best of them HAHAH

    HecTheHebSchol: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:17PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hey Chris, Great job here. It's been a while since I logged on. I'll be sending you something too.

    Chris: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:19PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hi Scott

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:19PM PST (-0700 GMT)
It was funny, a few years back, Steve had Eddy sponsoring his camps, as a result he was "endorsing" the Eddy goal equipment... this was while his lawsuit was pending, and he couldnt play goal... when his suit was settled... he was on the phone to me... "make me a set of pads and gloves, I can go back playing" I asked him.. "What about your deal with Eddy..." he replied, "I just terminated it, by wearing another brand!" hahah

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:20PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hi Chris... send me your address via email.. so I can mail you out some money... will $100.00 US help you out?

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:20PM PST (-0700 GMT)
If you can get me a picture of the diagonal design or idea of what it looks like and it's what I have in mind, I'll order a set from you now. This can also be done on the gloves correct?

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)
well.. best thing for me to do, is email you a pad blank.. and you come up with your diagnol pattern...our angle pattern is a neat looking diagnol done in a couple of colours... our site shows three colours, but it can also be done in 2 colours..

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:23PM PST (-0700 GMT)
We just did about 5 upper body pads this week.. one we did in a CHARCOAL colour of nylon, man, does it look cool!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:24PM PST (-0700 GMT)
hmmm.. looks like my girlfriend (also a goalie) stood me up!! she was supposed to meet me on IRC tonight! haha

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:24PM PST (-0700 GMT)
No free gear for her! hehe

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:29PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Man, talk about fringe benifits....she must be in equipment heaven HAHAH

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:29PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Actually, the iside of the pad makes more of a diamond shape when the pads are placed side by side... THis is because of the TOE-CAPs design..

    Beatts: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:30PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    hello all....

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:30PM PST (-0700 GMT)
well.. she is a PHD, so she will be able to purchase it on her own!! haha

    Beatts: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:32PM PST (-0700 GMT)
holy cow! alot of puckster's in the chat room tonight...

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:33PM PST (-0700 GMT)
They changed our address in the USA, so now all of the baseball games are blacked out... will have to call the satellite dish programming provider and move us back to where they had us before... or I wont get the NHL!!!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)
At least I still get the USA network, so my Monday night wrestling programming will be OK! hahah

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:37PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Scott can you put puck foils on your pads?

    Beatts: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:37PM PST (-0700 GMT)
just checking out your web-site Scott as I check in on the Chat log....Pretty sweet-looking site..good job.

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:38PM PST (-0700 GMT)
hmmm... people here.. no one is speaking!! Anyhow... i am going to go, The Learning Channel has had some cool programs on this week about UFO's... want to finish watching the series!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:39PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Man wrestling here in the South is like a serious sport. You ever see two grown men get into a heated arguement over which wrestler can beat up another? Some places here people actually believe it's real. They also believe Elvis is still alive too HAHA

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:39PM PST (-0700 GMT)
we have done puck foils in the past, although, I wouldnt recommend them, they break, and they have to always be replaced.. and I think they are illegal in alot of leauges

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hmm... I think Jay Leno is going to step into the ring next saturday on the Pay Per View... they are at the biker rally in Sturgeous SD

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:41PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Actually... haha, I would love to be a wrestler, it would be my DREAM job! if I didnt like what I do now so much, i would seriously think about training hard and getting into that entertainment business!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
But... i think if people are watching and thinking its real, they may need to seek some help!!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:43PM PST (-0700 GMT)
A friend of mine here in Woodstock has a pretty cool job, he does lines in the NHL! So, next time you see #71 Brad Kovachik working a game... you can say.. hey... Scott knows him! hehe VanMasenhoven usually comes out and skates at lunch time at Steves camps...he is an NHL ref... fast skater too!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:44PM PST (-0700 GMT)
They make good money thats for sure. I can see it now.... And in this corner the Canadian Crusher...SCOTT BATTRAM and his opponet tonight is none other than HULK HOGAN HAHA

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:45PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Brad and I played JNR togethor.. he is a big man, he must be at least 6 foot 3 or 4... when he was playing hockey he would have weighed in at about 240 or so... last year the NHL made him get into shape for a full season of NHL work.. he probably is down to about 200 - 210 and he looks average out there.. so that goes to show how big those boys are playing up in the show!

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:46PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Man if I didn't have to work right now i'd be in Sturgis with the wife, talk about a wild time, new definitions of the word are made there.

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:47PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yeah... Brett Hart.. whats he getting... 7 million bucks over a couple of years, and only working about once a week! Not bad money when you compare it to the workrate of other professional atheletes

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:48PM PST (-0700 GMT)
There are quite a few big boys out there. I was looking at goalie heights and weights the other day, they have definatly started getting bigger and bigger

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:49PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I saw a COPS episode from Sturgis, some different people there for sure!! and it appeared as though the women were not afraid to show some skin!! haha, hey.. did you guys know that up here in Ontario, its legal for women to be topless in public???

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:51PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well, its just common knowledge if you have two goalies, both of the same ability, and one is 6 foot 4, 240 lbs, and the other is 5 foot 6 and 160 lbs.. who do you think will sign!! haha Actually, yesterday I was in the gym, with Jeff Zehr, he should be signing with the Islanders this season... and he is about 6 foot 4 or maybe even taller! but not that big.. probably 190 or so..

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:51PM PST (-0700 GMT)
HAHAh you have to be kidding, talk about colder than a witches tit, must of been where the expression came from

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:51PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    He isnt a goalie though...

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:52PM PST (-0700 GMT)
hey.. its not that cold up here... we have heated igloos!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:52PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Was even able to wash the cars tonight without ice forming on them!

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:53PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Seriously though.. in our climate zone in Ontario... we get the same weather as Detroit... Buffalo... etc...

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:53PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I just read a report on goalie size in relation to goals aginst in the pro's. As expected, less goals on bigger goalies but then there are draw backs to bigger goalies that the shorter guys make up for. Overall I think bigger guys gave up about 2 less goals than smaller guys

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:55PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I remember plenty of Mich winters and none of them were much fun, unless you were inside or playing hockey

    ScottBattram: . . . . Fri, Jul 31, 7:55PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Sometimes it is funny, when I get calls from the US, the best one was a guy called up, and he says..."Bonjour, Bonjour is this that there BATTRAM Goalie Equipment" with a very texas accent!! For some reason he thought all the people in Canada spoke French... even though the website is all in English... then he was very relieved to find out that I cannot speak french that well... hahah

Hey guys and smott!! just checking in. I havent been around lately, I havent played hockey in awhile thats why I havent been around (torn a endon and a muscle in my calf playing baseball, at least my team went to the State Championships) Anyways, I've been working on my new web page, but I'm still working on it, visit my old site by clicking on this button . I'll be posting stuff about my new site there. And as soon as I get my new site up, I'll let you all know.

    Chris: . . . . Sun, Aug 2, 8:05PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Carpe de Puck, the book page isn't linked yet, but you can access it directly by clicking on this button . Also, if you don't see a book you are interested in listed, then tell me about it. If I link to it from the page, it will bring in the most contributions. Just filling you in.

Thanks Chris, you can expect the kickbacks to start rolling in soon.

Hi Chatsters....I see Bure's wanting OUT of Vancouver, dislikes Herr Keenan...imagine that!

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 9:21AM PST (-0700 GMT)
An amusing thought....Pens give Nedved back to Vancouver and we get Pavel! HEh heh heh....

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 9:22AM PST (-0700 GMT)
And how's this for a topsy-tyrvey evening in smottsie-land?....Double header last night, get SHELLED by #1 guys 17-1, yes not kidding Chatsters 17 goals I believe that is a personal worst....actually on about 65 shots I suppose I can't complain...

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 9:23AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Then, exhausted, dehydrated and ego in attters, I stumble off to game #2 at a different rink, play last season's champs, and whattya know I stone them and with 6 skaters we somehow win 7-4....perhaps God was making up for the beating I took game before!

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 9:24AM PST (-0700 GMT)

hi all. hi smott... you must be in great shape. I'm pretty sure I'd have to be admitted to the hospital for IV fluids if I attempted to face that many shots in one day. Especially in the summer... Our arenas over here get soooo hot.

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 10:47AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well, I'm sad to see Hrudey go. Nobody will ever win an argument that he was ever in the top echelon of the goalies of his era, but he played for some Kings teams that not only couldn't spell "Defense", they couldn't spell "D"!!! I wasn't a King fan back in the Vachon days, but Hrudey was the best King goalie I ever saw. He is a class guy and played really well for some mediocre teams and took them to their first finals (along with some guy named Wayne).

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 10:47AM PST (-0700 GMT)

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 10:53AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hi Sieve, RG...believe me I'm not feeling in such great shape today....yes summer rinks are nasty and the first game was pretty hot....also our game jerseys for that team are especially heavy and it's like a mini-sauna....I do try to drink like crazy both games & in-between but I am pretty much roadkill this AM. And yay, another game tonight at 11 PM!

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 10:53AM PST (-0700 GMT)
RG was Hrudey in goal for the Kings trip to the finals? Hmmm I don't remember that far back...

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 10:55AM PST (-0700 GMT)
...of course the lifting & 5 mile run I did earlier in the heat of the day may have contributed to that dead-wood feeling in my legs during the second game!...

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 11:09AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yup, he was team MVP for the season that year (92-93)...over Robitaille and his top 10 scorer finish when he set a record for left wings with 63 goals. Hrudey was awesome in the finals (ok it was against an average Habs team, but still), which they should have won except for McSorley and his all-time bonehead play...

    smott: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 11:35AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I forgot the McSorley thing....or was that the illegal stick?

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 1:02PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yeah...that was the illegal curve on the blade. The funny thing (it wasn't funny then, but now, in retrospect...) is that apparently almost everyone uses an illegal stick at one point in a game but in the third period, the all switch..............except for Marty...

Got some feedback on a new release, it's called Patrick Roy,champion goalie. Save your money. It's a $5.00 book but it's geared for kids at the 6th grade level or so. It has a few good pictures and traces his life from zero to hero but nothing that isn't already widely known by hockey buffs. No tips on how to stop the puck, strictly a Bio.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Mon, Aug 3, 6:09PM PST (-0700 GMT)
And not much of a Bio at that with a whole 62 pages

    smott: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 5:59AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well Chatsters, in case you haven't heard, HELL FROZE OVER IN PITTSBURGH YESTERDAY!!

    smott: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:00AM PST (-0700 GMT)
And in even more startling news, THE BLOCKER ARRIVED FROM ZIGGY!!!!

    smott: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:01AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Heh heh yes the lovely new Lefevre is here and I used it last night in a 3-3 tie....I must say it seems illegal as far as how deep it is....looking at it from the front it's actually rather narrow, narrower than my Roy blocker, but turn it to the side and you've got an incredible board on the inner half of the glove, hope this may stop some of those nasty skipover the hip and under the arm type goals....

    Mntender: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:05AM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Hi Mntender....

    C5: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:32AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Carpe, you'd want a Roy bio that's more than 62 pages? At 62 pages it looks like they managed to keep the Royal Ego out of the book, then!

    C5: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:34AM PST (-0700 GMT)
My knee is coming along fine. I'm bending the knee about 70% of normal, now, although it aches, now and again. I'm looking forward to getting the stitches out and playing. If I get them out tomorrow (the 11 day anniversary, and they said I should keep them 10-14 days) I wonder if I can play. If I tape it up nice and tight can I do that? Anyone have any advice? My team is still in the playoffs.

    C5: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:34AM PST (-0700 GMT)
What are stitches like, anyway? Couldn't I just take them out myself?

    Sieve: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:48AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Morning all. C5, other than when I was a child, I've always taking out my own stitches. Its kinda fun. Wiggle them to loosen them up first though. As far as playing, I'm not sure, but I would guess that 11 days is too soon. Good Luck.

    Sieve: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:49AM PST (-0700 GMT)
hi smott, congrats on the blocker...

    smott: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:50AM PST (-0700 GMT)
C5 did you have internal stitches and are they the disolving kind? Externals can usually be removed by yourself if you are careful. As for playing well might you not re-open the cut if you use the leg too much? What doesthe doc say? Or um have you neglected to ask a medical professional heh heh....?

    Grass: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 6:52AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Sounds like C5 is using the "Don't ask questions that you don't want answers for" methodology... [grin]

    smott: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 7:00AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yes that is correct they will pull a little bit, wiggle them and use rubbign alcohol just to make it STING more heh heh....

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 2:39PM PST (-0700 GMT)
On the stiches issue. Depends on what type of person you are. Some can stomach the act of pulling them out others get squimish about it after they start and end up going to have them removed. I've even seen cases where the person thought the wound had healed and pulled the sutures out only to have the wound open back up. My advice to you C5 is to go back to the health care provider and let them pull them out and re evaluate your wound so that you don't do further damage and miss more ice time.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 2:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
So what was the total time from placing the order to receiving the blocker, 30 weeks? Nice to know for future orders eh? LOL

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 2:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
So what are your thoughts on the Lefevre? I've heard it's extremly stiff. How about weight?

    snowman: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 2:47PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I agree with CdP on the stitches for C5. Best getting them looked at to be sure they are ready to be out. I never had stitches but my brother was extremely dizzy when his were getting removed.

    snowman: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 2:52PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Had a controversial call in a game on Sunday, late in the 3rd, tied 3-3, other team sucessfully kicks the puck in the net. Ref is standing right there and says GOAL! We lost another player for a week, since he was so hot after that call.

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 5:13PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Congrats on the new blocker...the only thing that beats getting the new equipment is the first time you wear it and realize "This thing is broken in JUST right!"

We had a bad finish last night...last game of the season, we're locked into 3rd place and there's 1:23 left in the 3rd period of a 9-3 game. Other team's guy takes a run at our guy and the ref's got his arm up to make the call but our guy pushed back and that starts a fight. Now he's suspended for our first round game as is the third man. Of course, the other team doesn't care, they've got 3 wins and are out of the playoffs......groooaaaan......

    J37: . . . . Tue, Aug 4, 8:09PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well, I called Ziggy today and he told me he had a confirmation of my order on July 10th. What the @*&%$ does that mean?!! He promised it would be here next week.

Hey Scott: I finally got around to checking out your site today, and I've got to tell you how much I liked it! I am really, really interested in those roller hockey leg pads. I just wish I had the greenbacks. I was really very impressed. Good job! Site was easy to navigate too.

I am insulted on how the NHL is ALWAYS looking a way to put more trouble into a goaltenders job. Now that are making the chest protector smaller, the goalie pants, and soon the glove. I can't believe this! The made the goal crease smaller. It's a joke! It's gonna look stupid. I am totally against what the NHL is doing..... any comments?

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 5:34AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I thought they were going back to the old square-crease...? but I hadn't heard anything definite on size of equipment....

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 5:37AM PST (-0700 GMT)
As for the Lefevre blocker yes it is quite stiff and as I am used to the old floating-cuff design this one feels a bit locked-on my arm. It has a little foam ridge inside that really sits it squarely on your forearm. Ithas a tapered leading edge and is very easy to get square on the ice when you go paddle down. I haven't weighed it but I suspect it is slightly heavier than the Roy version if only becasue of the extremly built-up inner half.

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 5:37AM PST (-0700 GMT)
But it is solid as a rock and will stop cannons...

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 5:40AM PST (-0700 GMT)
As for the total order time....I ordered first back in February but if His Ziggy-ness is to be believed that first blocker arrived and was sent, only to be lost by UPS or abducted by aliens or whatever. The second blocker was ordered around Easter.....so the Lefevre delivery was somewhere around oh 17 weeks....

    Sieve: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 5:53AM PST (-0700 GMT)

...and that the size mega-large-parachute jerseys may get scrutinized too....

    snowman: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:24AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I received a news release, The jersey may not be wider than 29 inches across at the chest, 30 inches across at the hips, nine inches wide at the wrist or 14 inches from the front of the shoulder to the back. No inserts or additions may be made and the jersey may not be longer than 32 inches and it may not cover any area between the legs. The protection for the chest and arms must be more form-fitting and no raised ridges will be permitted on the front, sides or top. The pants legs may not be wider than 11 inches across the front of the thigh and no inside or outside ridges will be permitted. Limits on the dimensions of catching gloves will be enacted on a transitional basis for next season with full implementation for 1999-2000. The cuff may not be wider than eight inches, the height of the cuff may not be higher than five inches and the length of the vertical portion of the ``T'' shaped trap will not exceed 10 inches in interior measurement.

    Sieve: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:26AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I can't find anyone to make me a jersey like that. Goalie cut XXXL seems to be the max but even that isnt baggy. Maybe if I call a tent maker...

    snowman: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:26AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Bob Gainey of the Dallas Stars headed the general managers committee that recommended the dimensions. Glenn Healy and Curtis Joseph of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Patrick Roy and Craig Billington of the Colorado Avalanche and John Vanbiesbrouck of the Philadelphia Flyers were among the players who participated, while former NHL goalie Dave Dryden was involved as a consultant.

    Sieve: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:28AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    snowman, is that NHL?

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:31AM PST (-0700 GMT)

Gee - hmmm. Well I for one fully support smaller equipment, goalies stop pucks not equipment. Goals may go up...so what - it was getting looney out there. I'd rather see the athleticism and skill return to the position, not just who has the biggest pads.

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 9:54AM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Chris: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 10:30AM PST (-0700 GMT)
That was me. I'm not a big goalie myself, so I'll feel no impact with the equipment size limitations, howerver I just hope I dont have to wear that Florida Panthers 3rd jersey.

    smott: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 10:37AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Nice review CdP! I am in the pants-market myself, tired of looking black and blue this summer! Does Brian's have sizes to fit somebody like me?......

    J37: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 11:07AM PST (-0700 GMT)

    GoalieHawk: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 11:24AM PST (-0700 GMT)
The equipment rule changes are bad. What about big guys that need big equipment for protection? Like Sean Burke. He is 6'4" and he needs larger equipment than say, John Vanbiesbrouck who is 5'8". Soon the goalies in the NHL are gonna look like the goalies in the early 20's with barley even a piece of clothing to protect them! What nexted? The masks? Are proventing goals? Oh, then lets get rid of the mask! Now on a serious note. The NHL is just trying to improve scoring, but at what price? Why do they let Craig Ludwig were those huge shin pads? Oh well, we are the goalies and we have no say in it cause no one listens........ in other news the Disney Co. offered a $400 million dollard deal for the United State rights for the airing of TV NHL games on ABC and ESPN. It will be great if get to see games on the ABC network. It will draw more fans. So that is good....... also, about the crease size change. I heard the shaved off the wings of the crease that extend from the side of each posts. So the crease will just be post to post.

J37 THANKS FOR THE TIP ON THE BLOCKER!!! :-D

    Toast: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 12:37AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Aw s***, why do I even bother anymore. Forget it, I can't debate assinine logic like that...I am gone.

    C5: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 1:59PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Smott, wiggled the stitches and they wiggle just fine. CNN plays tonight and if they lose, I'll play with them Sunday night for the clincher. Otherwise, things will be fine and dandy for winter. Oh, and on the inside, I have 4 stitches, but they're the removeable kind. What did people do for internal stitches before those came along?

    C5: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 2:02PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yeah... the Religious Right uses that same logic. Allow gays to marry? What next, sex with animals in the street? Maskless goalies... Hmmm... Pretty boy Roy might not go for that.

    C5: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 2:21PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Face it... shots are being stopped by increasingly better-conditioned goalies. I could stop the same amount of shots wearing cricket pads, no lie. Only on those 'close your eyes and pray' screen shots and shots super-close in does bulk help you. It's all anticipation and seeing the shot, in my opinion.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 2:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)
man, I don't know too many goalies that will be able to squeeze into a jersey that size. 29" across the chest? That can't be right, what if you have a 40" chest without your C/A on? That means you figure your chest size bare divide by 2 and the rest is for your C/A? were those rules already approved or just ideas thrown out on the table for trying ? As much as I like buying new equipment, this is getting out of hand. I know some folk will have to buy several of the high dollar items in order to be legal. I'll believe it once I see it in a rule book, until then it's just viscious rumor.

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 2:46PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Smott, on the pants. To give you an idea of the fit of the Brian's and the leeway you have. My Heatons are small 30-32 and the fit was pretty close. I could wear them just by cinching down the drawstring and go without suspenders period. On the Brian's i figured i'd go a little bit bigger and get a medium. However, SFSL sent me a large which doesn't cinch down enough to wear without suspenders but the fit otherwise is great and the suspenders are adjusted as small as they will go. Because of the cut in back you will have to adjust your suspenders anyways. But if I can get away with wearing a large and I have a 30" waist, you should have no trouble unless you have say a 24" waist or something like that.

    Goal35: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 3:03PM PST (-0700 GMT)
CdP, nice review on the Ridge pants, couldn't really add much more myself - yes is wierd getting used to cinching the suspenders that tight, you would think you would be getting bound up by the pants, but the movement is great... C5 - check with the doc on if you should or can be applying any type of moisturizer to the scar area to keep the skin supple to keep it from re-tearing..

    Goal35: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 3:05PM PST (-0700 GMT)
smott - my R5's were large, and my Brian's are XL, I have a 36" waist (yea, I know, short fat old guy) but there is lots of room and with the size, they are not cumbersome at all

J37, glad you liked our website... we also make a pro INLINE pad in the BOLD series, that is used in MLRH by the Buffalo Wings... its identical to our BOLD ice pad, only made in Cordura Nylon. As for the July 10th thing, now add on another 8 - 12 weeks from the July 10th confirmation date.. since Troy said they are about 8 weeks backlogged on orders! So.. it should show up sometime in September! hahah Did you look at our blockers as well???

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:16PM PST (-0700 GMT)
J37 you really should give Scott a serious look. His product is right up there with anything on the market today plus you get custom gloves in about the same time you'd get them from out of a catalog.

I think that Panther logo was on their sleeves the last couple years.

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Amen, Toast...I don't really have a problem with the new rules. Heck, if there's no rules, why not just let them tack a 4x6 piece of plywood on their backs to keep ALL the pucks out!?!!?!

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Wed, Aug 5, 6:46PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I mean, really, what's the downside to the new rules? By the way, they're at button and the one about the jersey is that it can't be wider than 29" ACROSS the chest. You'd have to have a 58" chest and I don't know if anyone could play net with a chest (even including the c/a) that big.

I feel like I know something about you all after reading the extensive archives. I certainly have learned a lot about goaltending already.

    smott: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:06PM PST (-0700 GMT)

I posted a message on the board, I am gearing up to play Ice. I played floor hockey (lame experience) as goalie.

    smott: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:14PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Good luck, I know you'll have a blast. Can you give us a little bio oon yourself? Where you come from, age etc...fave goalie? heh heh...

    smott: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:15PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I will check back in a bit....

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:18PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    hi

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:18PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    anyone home?

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:25PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Okay, Bio: Male, 26 yr old, currently living in Dallas Texas, but before that I lived in Chicago. Belfour has always been my favorite goalie, first in Chicago, and it worked out nicely to have him in Dallas now. I played 4 years of floor hockey for three teams at the small time in different leagues back in college. So I got a chance to play each position, and decided on goalie. I have always loved watching goalies. I enjoy Eddie's aggression and competitive fire. There is one columnist (I don't think much about columnists in general) who insist Eddie can't handle the playoffs, but I don't think the Wings would be denied this year.

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:26PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hello Wall

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:31PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Cool I'm 16/f from Massachusetts and I'm going to be a junior in high school. My favorite goalie is Martin BRODEUR! :-)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:33PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I also really like the Stars backup goalie, Roman Turek. He is huge. Dunno if many people have seen him. He is an excellent positional player.

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)
As a back up, I like Boston's Rob Tallas

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)
nice to meet you "The Wall" are you a floyd fan?

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:36PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    no sorry

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:36PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Turek will be starting within 2 years, unless he manages to leave in which case it will be sooner. He backstopped the Czechs in 94 Olympics.

    Do you play much?

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
yes I play a lot. I have two more hockey camps, one of them goalie, before the summer ends. I've already had two camps AND a tournament to play in this summer! I also play for my girls high school team in the winter, which plays a scedule of 23 games.

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:41PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Besides that I play on a weekend team, usually during the fall and spring.

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I've been playing for about five years and I started out with street hockey also. I love playing goalie, but at times it can get frustrating.

    The Wall: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
well i got to go, nice meeting you. I'll see you around sometime! Bye :-)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 1:46PM PST (-0700 GMT)

What HS do you go to now Tom? I think you said you were in Dallas too...

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 2:11PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Here is a query for you veterans. I plan on reading some books (suggestions requested), workshops, etc. But for game experience, which do you think would be more valuable: Pick up games which are free for goalies (is that pretty universal?) or join a novice league?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 2:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    I go to Jesuit

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 2:25PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:17PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:18PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Did you used to live in Washington?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:19PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    No

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:20PM PST (-0700 GMT)
hmm, how did you develope your love of Capitals?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:21PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)
You know Brent Swabrek. He works at iceoplex

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)
the reason I asked originally about the Stars, was I had a two guys that sat next to me at games last season that I think went to Jesuit.

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:23PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    oh

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:23PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I just recently started going to Iceoplex, its a touch closer than StarsCenter. And I am only taking lessons so far. I only played floor hockey before.

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:24PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    You planning to play there?

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:24PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I thought it would be strange if you were one of those brothers. The younger one did play defense I think.

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:25PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I do plan to play, but I have some equipment purchasing to do

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:26PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Can't help there

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:26PM PST (-0700 GMT)
What are the Rinks in DFW? StarsCenter, Iceplex, small mall rinks in Prestonwood and Galeria, but I thought there was one more large one.

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:27PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Iceboud

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:28PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:29PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I think it's in Dallas city

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:30PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    or Grapevine

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:31PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:32PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:32PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:33PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Yes

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:34PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:36PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    I ref sometimes

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:37PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    wow, for league play?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:38PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    ya

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:39PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    It isn't fun to ref

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Some PeeWee parents and coach aren't nice

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Just a bunch of work?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:41PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Money's not bad... how long do the games usually last?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    No,I live in Watuaga

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:43PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Do you have to call a lot of penalties in PeeWee?

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:43PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    2 1/2 hours

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:44PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I guess that's reasonably close to the StarsCenter

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:44PM PST (-0700 GMT)
OH Ya them kids are evil

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:45PM PST (-0700 GMT)
$11 an hour isn't bad... but I imagine it would get tiresome with the parents and such.

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:45PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    yup

    Tom: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:45PM PST (-0700 GMT)
    I gotta go- bye

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:46PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Vile: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 3:59PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Out there for whoever... is there a help file or FAQ for this chat?

    Carpe de Puck: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 6:13PM PST (-0700 GMT)
No, nothing like that. just a bunch of goalies talking shop. If you have a question just ask and someone will answer it.

    GoalieHawk: . . . . Thu, Aug 6, 8:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 7:55AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hello Grass

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 7:56AM PST (-0700 GMT)
who is your favorite NHL goalie?

    Chris: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 7:57AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hey Grass

    Chris: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 7:57AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hi Vile, Welcome.

    Chris: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 7:59AM PST (-0700 GMT)
My favorite goalie... I would have to say it was Roy, until he moved to Colorado. Now, I don't have one :-( Still upset about the transaction.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:01AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Mine's Belfour, first in chicago and now in Dallas.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:02AM PST (-0700 GMT)
The better the goalie is, the more psychologically unstable they seem to be... Belfour and Roy are both great goalies. They both seem a little unhinged sometimes

    C5: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:34AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Smott, took the stitches out, and everything's fine. I'm happy as a clam. Got lots of advice from my teammates the other night about how to take my stitches out. How long do you think it'll be before I can play again? CNN has a game Sunday night but the injury is still stiff and kind of tears if I bend it wrong... I still want to be cautious. It's still quite a big cut, and it'll be a pretty scar!

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:40AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Morning all. We should have Chris start up a bruises and scars picture gallery. I've had a couple photo worthy beauties (bruises, not scars) on the inside of my lower thigh lately.

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:43AM PST (-0700 GMT)
worst one ever looked like someone stuck a golf ball under my skin on the side of my blocker side elbow. owwww...

    Sieve: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:44AM PST (-0700 GMT)
welcome to the shiny new Domain Vile

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:46AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Thanks Sieve, this is a great site Chris.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:47AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hi fellas...

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:49AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hmmm C5 you are mistaking me for a medical professional heh heh heh....I would think if you are feelign any tearing sensations you better remain a couch spud awhile longer, difficult though that may be...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:50AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hello smott

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:51AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yes great goalies often do seem a bit unhinged...though I'm sorry to say Vile I don't exactly concur with Belfour as being a top-notch goalie....Roy, yes deiniftely, but Eddie, hmmm I have always thought he's a bit overrated and has never carried a mediocre team the way say Hasek has, or Roy in the early Montreal years....Eddie was Shark-bait back in San Jose! Heh heh....

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:52AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Of course any mention of Dominator may kick off our Is He Fantastically Great or Merely Unbelievably Lucky debate!

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:53AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I felt he was top notch with Chicago, but then he started having back problems. Last year he did very well, but he did not get a lot of offensive support from the Stars

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:54AM PST (-0700 GMT)
While I think he's great (lucky too sometimes heh heh) I'm afraid I still don't count Dom with the true greats like Roy because he seems to have not yet managed to lift his game in the playoffs....after his amazing Olympic performance I thought he would tear through the Stanley Cup playoffs, be he seemed to level out a little bit, while Kolzig was the only goalie that truly seemed to peak through the playoffs....

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:55AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hmmm well I always thought Herr Keenan should have been going with that lanky backup hasek-dude backin the 92playoffs! Heh heh if you ask Toast he may even opine that teh Hawks could have beaten the Pens with Dom in goal. I wouldn't go that far! But it might not have been a 4-0 series....

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:56AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I read somewhere the Hasek's parents took him to the doctor when he was younger because they were consider his knees were abnormal. Just double jointed. I like Hasek because he just plays with hyper athleticism, and he has a good sense of himself.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:56AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yup and HAsek doesn't get much O from Buff either...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:57AM PST (-0700 GMT)
er concerned about his knees... After a particularly bad game against the Capitals in the finals I think, he spent the next practice with "Swiss Cheese" on his jersey

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 8:58AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yep DOm is a great athlete for sure, though he sometimes dpends on it too much and makes normal saves seem like an adventure, but he has some excellent fundamentals too, is usually square very well and has super footwork and pad work. But I still say his strength uis his instinct for knowing where the puck is going to be and putting some piece of himself there. He makes alot of ridiculous saves while on his back with this instinct, but then gets beat by the ordinary 25 footer...almost like he does best when he has no time to think out there....

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:00AM PST (-0700 GMT)
The athletic guys are the most fun to watch, I like Terreri and HAckett...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:00AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yeah, he seems to roll on his back with his feet in the air to block quite a lot. Usually on a break away, so I guess there is some psychology in seeming to open up like that for a shooter.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:01AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I admire the positionally sound, ever seen Stars Backup fellow Czech Roman Turek?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:02AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I also maintain my theory that shooters tend to choke their brains out against him. He's got a definite aura going.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:03AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Don't know Turek....he's the big guy?...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:03AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Turek is huge, 6'5" and mainly stay at home. Stays real still most of time, then explodes.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:04AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yikes if I was that big I'd be staying still too! Takes too long to overcome the inertia and get moving heh heh....

    Mntender: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:06AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hi Smott

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:06AM PST (-0700 GMT)
That's a lot of humanity in front of a net

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:07AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Hey Mntender how's your boys?

    Mntender: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:10AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Having a great summer. The younger is playing in a tourney next week. A new developmental league started here. The oldest will be leaving home to attend a HS in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area. So goalie Mom is a little sad, but we will be able to see most his games. HE will only be a hour away.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:13AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Where are you from smott? I gather Mntender is near Minneapolis :)

    Mntender: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:15AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yup Vile, we aren't far from the Cities. But also not far from Iowa , kinda scary !

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:19AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I used to live in Mason City Iowa gotta head to lunch, bbl

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:20AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I am from Pittsburgh! A big Pens fan....Though it does look like Pens are severly in the red and may not stay here....

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:26AM PST (-0700 GMT)
The Pens hired a top new financial wizard from what I hear... They should get profitable again soon.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:29AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Well they are going to have a fire-sale I believe at the end of the year, starting with Jagr. That will make the books a little less red, however seats have been getting empty with Lemieux gone, now Francis a real fave is gone, without Jagr, well....let's just say I'll be playing in front of more people in my Monday night rec league! SO they'll save $$ on salaries but lose $$ on tickets.

    Mntender: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 9:33AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Vile, My youngest is playing on a team with 3 kids from Mason City. 1 is the other goalie.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 10:47AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Cool, I lived there a while ago for just a year

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 10:47AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I am in Dallas now, we have a burgeoning peewee system

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 10:57AM PST (-0700 GMT)
LaFontaine is retiring... not a goalie, but still...

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:22AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I will miss Patty. Ist his concussion-related?...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:27AM PST (-0700 GMT)
That is what the article said, it won't be official until next week

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:36AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Quite a list of future hall of famers retiring. Lafontaine, Fetisov, Moog?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:43AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yep age and injuries...hey SOUNDS LIKE ME! Heh heh heh

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:50AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    How old are you?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:56AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Eeek 38 wish you never asked!!

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 11:58AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Sorry, but I think goalies get smarter as they get older.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:00AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Hope so, that's the only thing I got going for me!!

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:02AM PST (-0700 GMT)
How long have you been playing?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:04AM PST (-0700 GMT)
    Oh dear, um, 21 years?

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:05AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I wish I had gotten started sooner.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:05AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Not much I can do about that now :)

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:06AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yep me too! Never learned to skate, that is a big weakness still. I just kind of learned as I played....the bestplayers are just the ones who were rattling around on skates since they were 3....

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:07AM PST (-0700 GMT)
yeah, I am starting with skating lessons. do you use regular skates or goalie skates?

    Mntender: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:15AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Vile, I met one of your peewee goalies last month at Tretiaks goalie school. Don't remember his name, just that his parents ( nice people) at part owners of the Stars. He was a good tender, and a nice kid.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:15AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Oh I always used goalie skates....I'd get broken bones without them...righyt now I have a pair of Bauer 4000s which are finally breaking in nicely after being a little bit tight in the heel....

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:24AM PST (-0700 GMT)
cool, Mntender :) What are the differences between the different skates, Smott?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:37AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Um the difference between goalie skates and forward skates? The difference is huge both in the extra protection (usually a fibreglass type shell) around the goalie boot, and the blades differ greatly also. Goalie blade longer and wider, also has litle or no "rock" to it, that is a large portion of the blade is on the ice. This makes balance a little easier but turning a little slower.....go check out some hockey sites to see pics of the different boots.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:42AM PST (-0700 GMT)
So far, I haven't found any websites with anything but forward skates. I didn't think about the extra protection. I guess that pretty well decides that.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:44AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yep you don't want to feel those pucks bouncing off your toes! HAd a boot shatter once in college OWWW....

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:45AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Actually those older skates were less protective...had a broken foot once too but I doubt that would happen with today's skates....

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:58AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Did Fuhr retire this year too?

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 12:59AM PST (-0700 GMT)
I don't think so, at least I didn't hear that....he's in good shape I thought, no injuries...

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:07PM PST (-0700 GMT)
He's pretty old... and he had nearly every joint operated on already.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:08PM PST (-0700 GMT)
Old for an active NHL goalie, but the major thing would be his past injuries

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:10PM PST (-0700 GMT)
yes he had major knee surgery in lastyears playoffs but he came back pretty well didn't he? I hope he keeps playing.

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:11PM PST (-0700 GMT)
So do I. I think he had a shoulder and/or hip surgury at some point too. Could be wrong tho

    Vile: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:16PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I just checked out the ESPN site, Fuhr will be 36 in Sept And I gather he is still going. He did really well for the Blues in the playoffs. I expect the non-Hull transition to not be easy for the Blues this season.

    smott: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 1:22PM PST (-0700 GMT)
I thought they would try to get Ron Francis....oh well. Anyway gotta jet...SEE ya....

    Tom: . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 2:40PM PST (-0700 GMT)
No news in the leagues today.

    : . . . . Fri, Aug 7, 2:42PM PST (-0700 GMT)

Looks like the CAPS have got Tabby playing for them now. I think he may be riding the pine quite a bit after Ollie's outstanding playoff .

    RocketGoalie: . . . . Sat, Aug 8, 11:45AM PST (-0700 GMT)
Yup, he was with them before. Flames and Lighting both tried him as a #1 but he's not even a mediocre #1...but he'll be a great backup. Never whines and is a great guy in the community...ought to keep Olie settled.

Anybody else following the ESPN/Fox bidding war? ESPN's trying to get all rights (cable and airwaves) rights by offering three times what they both paid in the last deal. I'd love to see ESPN get it all...don't care for most of Fox's gimmicks.

Sorry to see LaFontaine go, but I'm glad he's retiring before his brain doesn't work anymore. Kariya's gonna have to think about it in about 5 years...

More bad news for hockey.....looks like the Pens are going to file bankruptcy. Although I think it may be a ploy to shaft Mario of the money owed him.

Played pick up today after a 2 week break, I think it helped my game somewhat. I was actually having fun today, even laughing out loud. Teams were fairly even so it wasn't a puck fest but had some good shots/saves none the less. Man do I love Hockey!!! :-)
